There is an important choice at this election...
THE LAST SEVEN YEARS OF A TORY GOVERNMENT, FIVE OF THOSE YEARS IN COALITION WITH THE LIB DEMS, HAVE BEEN TOUGH FOR THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL.
I have opposed Tory cuts in Parliament.
We need a Labour government to give Liverpool a fair deal.
Liverpool City Council has lost 58% of its central government funding, although Liverpool is one of the most deprived cities in England. I congratulate Mayor Joe Anderson in finding innovative ways of plugging the gaps, while keeping key services operating.
I have spoken out against cuts in public services, particularly in the NHS, social care and education. I have backed better transport including buses.
Liverpool’s regeneration must continue with jobs and skills training.
The Tories do not care. Liverpool has benefitted greatly from EU funding and investment. Brexit will be tough on cities like ours. I was pleased that 73% in the Riverside constituency voted to remain in the EU.
In Parliament, I voted against Article 50 to trigger Brexit.
Labour will re-build a Britain for the many. We must stop the damaging cuts imposed by the Tory government. Better pay for nurses and doctors, reverse the cuts to the Police, where 20,000 officers have been cut since 2010. We need to make sure that struggling families are better supported. Under the Tories, there have been tax breaks for the rich while working families are set to be £1,400 a year worse off. This cannot be right.
- Labour will introduce a real Living Wage - £10ph.
- Establish a national investment bank.
- Protect pensioners and guarantee the Triple Lock on pensions until 2025.
- Invest in new affordable homes to rent and buy - over a million new homes within 5 years.
We need a Labour government and it is vital Liverpool retains a strong voice in Parliament.
Vote Louise Ellman, your Labour & Co-operative candidate on June 8th.
